How will WeWork affect coworking as an industry?

Brought to you by SoBeCoWorks

or, will it have any affect at all?

If you’re not familiar with WeWork and the debacle they created, you can find out more at this Business Insider article.

The Basic Gist…
WeWork is an international coworking management company with locations around the world including England, the US and Canada.
WeWork went public with an IPO and things went downhill after that. You can find the details in the Business Insider article linked to above.

Will this affect the rest of the industry?
In my opinion, maybe. Let me expand.
I feel that this will not affect the smaller, independently owned and the small corporate owned coworking spaces, nor will it affect the spaces that exist.
As an example, SoBeCoWorks (the sponsor of Lehigh Valley Coworking), will not be affected by this issue at all because we are small, self supportive and completely independent. We have no plans to go public and our plans for expansion can be self financed.

Who might it affect?
This debacle may impact new coworking companies that may be looking to go public for the foreseeable future.
You see, this circus has most likely put a foul taste in the investors who may have wanted to invest in this industry. So now, when someone brings up taking a coworking company public, the investors may look back on WeWork and pass.
It may also affect companies that already exist and want to expand. Such as, Regus. They may run into concerns, even though they do NOT have the same issues as WeWork, it may be a tough battle to expand via investors.
